Jinendrabuddhi (710-770)
Given dates (all in the Common Era) are approximate and represent the upper and lower possible extremes of the person's lifetime.
Kamalaśīla knew ideas and explanations that are peculiar to Jinendrabuddhi. Śāntarakṣita appears to refer to Jinendrabuddhi’s theory of partial reliability (aṃśasaṃvādavāda), while Jinendrabudhi in turn seems to use the Tattvasaṅgraha, which suggests a relationship of contemporaneity (Funayama 1999 pp. 85-90).
The identity of Jinendrabuddhi, the author of the Pramāṇasamuccayaṭīkā, and the eponymous grammarian who authored the Nyāsa was long discussed (negative: Kobayashi 1977; affirmative: Hayes 1983; summary and further support of identity: Funayama 1999 p. 92). Steinkellner 2005 pp. xl-xlii supports Funayama’s conjectured identity, chiefly on the basis of the identical author-name in the colophons of the two works (bodhisattvadeśīyācārya and jinendrabuddhi).
